Bartolo: The Guardian and the Philosopher (1927–2005)

It was Bartolo Mascarello who shaped the winery's modern identity, standing out for his fundamentalist positions. He categorically rejected the use of barriques (small new barrels), opting only for large Slavonian oak barrels, to ensure a Barolo with territorial purity and immense longevity.

His philosophy was based on the **blend of Crus** (including Cannubi, San Lorenzo, Ruè and Rocche dell'Annunziata), arguing that Barolo should be the harmonious union of its territory, and not the expression of a single vineyard.

The Legacy and the "Artist Labels"

Today, his daughter, Maria Teresa Mascarello, faithfully continues her father's vision. Under her guidance, the unmistakable style of Barolo Mascarello and its artisanal vocation remain intact.

The winery is also universally known for its **"Designed Labels"** or **"Artist Labels"**, often hand-made with candid drawings or phrases, which make the bottles limited editions and highly sought-after by collectors worldwide.
